About this game

Pixel Brawl is a side-on fighting game played in best-of-three rounds of 60 seconds each. Each of the four brawlers has their own speed, power and reach, a special move and a stronger EX version. Sabre dashes, Rubble sends shockwaves along the floor, Tumble cartwheels through you and Pepper throws pans and flames.

Goal: Win two rounds by emptying your opponent's health bar or by having more health when the clock runs out.

Pixel Brawl is an original fighting game built for the browser in the style of 1980s arcade cabinets: pixel art, a chiptune soundtrack and CRT scanlines, all generated in code. It is free, has no ads and needs no download or account.

Round length
A match takes 1-3 minutes, and a full six-match ladder takes about 10-20 minutes.

Tips

  • Hold back to block, and crouch while blocking for sweeps, Rubble's Quake and Pepper's Flame Spit, but stand to block jump attacks.
  • Press light and heavy together, or forward and heavy up close, for a throw that deals 14 damage and can't be blocked.
  • Each hit after the first in a combo does 75 percent damage, but ladder points double during combos.
  • A perfect round adds 1,500 to the round bonus, which also pays 10 points per remaining health and 5 per second left.

Questions

Can I play Pixel Brawl with a friend?

Yes, on one keyboard. Player 1 uses WASD with F, G and H; player 2 uses the arrow keys with K, L and the semicolon key. Versus is not available with touch controls.

How do I do a special move?

Press the special button, or press down, then forward, then an attack. With a full EX meter, the special button or down, forward, heavy gives the EX version.

What happens on a draw?

If both fighters are knocked out together or have equal health at time over, the round is replayed.
