About this game
You play Sable, a commando fighting the Ironhusk, an army of beetle-armoured machines, through Vine Jungle, Silt River and Ironhusk Fortress. Supply carriers drop new weapons, and on the river you take a hover-sled from its Ironhusk pilot.
Goal: Fight through all three stages and destroy the boss at the end of each, scoring for every Ironhusk you take down.
Jungle Gunner is an original run-and-gun game built for the browser in the style of 1980s arcade cabinets: pixel art, a chiptune soundtrack and CRT scanlines, all generated in code. It is free, has no ads and needs no download or account.
What’s inside
- 3 stages, each ending in a boss: Bramble Gate, Silt Leviathan and The Warden
- 4 weapons: Rifle, Spread, Lance and Rapid
- 3 lives, checkpoints and 2 continues
- Players
- 1 player
- On a phone
- An on-screen D-pad moves and aims, with Shoot, Jump and Gren buttons on the right; tapping open space also fires, and the button at the bottom centre pauses.
- Round length
- Each stage takes about 4-7 minutes, so a full run through all three takes 15-20 minutes.
Tips
- Kills made within about a second of each other build a chain, and every third kill in a chain raises the multiplier, up to 4x.
- Lance shots pass through enemies and deal triple damage, which makes it the strongest pick for bosses.
- Each grenade still in your pack at the end of a stage is worth 100 points, and finishing a stage without dying adds a 5000 bonus.
Questions
How do I get new weapons in Jungle Gunner?
Shoot down the supply carriers that fly across the top of the screen; each one drops a weapon or grenades that you walk over to collect.
Does Jungle Gunner have continues?
Yes, two. A continue gives you three new lives at your last checkpoint, but your score goes back to zero.
