About this game
Bomb Grid is a numbers-and-logic puzzle where every opened square tells you how many bombs touch it. A fuse burns along the top of the screen once you open your first square, so you have to think quickly as well as carefully. Opening squares and flagging real bombs feeds the fuse, so steady progress keeps you alive.
Goal: Open every square that is not a bomb before the fuse burns out, and do it fast for a better time and more points.
Bomb Grid is an original mine-clearing puzzle built for the browser in the style of 1980s arcade cabinets: pixel art, a chiptune soundtrack and CRT scanlines, all generated in code. It is free, has no ads and needs no download or account.
What’s inside
- Easy: 9 by 9 board, 10 bombs, 2-minute fuse
- Normal: 16 by 12 board, 30 bombs, 3-minute fuse
- Expert: 24 by 14 board, 60 bombs, 5-minute fuse
- Best time saved for each board, plus a high score of 100 points per bomb minus the seconds taken
- Players
- 1 player
- On a phone
- Tap a square to open it and hold for about a third of a second to flag it; the Tap:Dig button swaps those two actions, and tapping the robot face pauses.
- Round length
- An Easy board takes 1-2 minutes; Normal and Expert boards take about 3-10 minutes.
Tips
- Your first square is never a bomb or next to one, so it always opens an area to work from.
- Every square you open adds 0.4 seconds to the fuse, and a flag adds 3 seconds once the numbers around it prove it is a bomb, up to the starting length.
- Once a number has all its flags placed, chord it to open all its other neighbours at once.
- The fuse ticks out loud in the last 20 seconds, which is the moment to chord safe areas fast.
Questions
How do I chord in Bomb Grid?
Click a number with the middle button or both buttons, press C on the keyboard, or hold a number on a touch screen. It works when the right number of flags is already around it.
What happens when the fuse runs out?
The bombs go off and the board is lost. Opening squares adds time, and so do flags that the numbers prove are bombs, so keep moving.
Can I play Bomb Grid with only a keyboard?
Yes. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor, Space to open, F to flag and C to chord. Press 1, 2 or 3 to pick a board.
